Rachana Sareera Department

The Department of Rachana Shareera was the first to be established in the institution and was developed under the able guidance of its founding Head of the Department, Dr. Sujatha. Through her dedicated efforts and clear vision, the department attained a strong foundation in imparting fundamental knowledge of Rachana Shareera (Anatomy).

The department continues to be strengthened by experienced faculty members, ensuring that students receive both classical and updated knowledge in the subject. At present, it caters to an undergraduate intake of 60 students, with plans to expand capacity to 100–200 students. Parallel efforts are underway to develop facilities for postgraduate and PhD programmes.

OUR GOALS

Vision

  • To develop a sound platform of knowledge for Undergraduates using the best combination of old and advanced E-learning teaching modules.
  • To make the students competent enough to excel in all their examinations.
  • We promote school visits to our museum in such a way that the interest of school children towards the medical field, especially Ayurveda, will increase in society.
  • We are the basic department which provides facilities to all our Allied and Paramedical students.
OUR PURPOSE

Our Mission

  • To implement micro-group teaching programs and conduct oral/viva sessions for modern topics as well as Ayurveda Shlokas for undergraduates to make them competent for their examinations.
  • To encourage the interest of undergraduates and teachers in newer research projects.
  • To promote body donation programs in society in all proper ways to achieve more cadavers in the future so as to make dissection, learning and research more effective.
  • To promote people towards organ donation by arranging counselling programs.
  • To develop a well-equipped cadaveric laboratory and keen dissection procedures to enhance confidence and training for newly budding surgeons.
  • To encourage students as well as teaching faculty to use newly introduced devices and digital technologies.
DEPARTMENTAL FACILITIES

Museum & Learning Resources

The Department of Rachana Sharir provides a comprehensive learning environment equipped with anatomical resources, demonstration facilities, a cadaveric laboratory, and reference materials to support practical and theoretical learning.

Faculty & Department Facilities

The Department of Rachana Sharir has fulfilled all the required criteria with well-planned faculty rooms equipped with computers, shelves, tables and chairs. The department also includes store rooms, an attender room and an embalming room with tanks for the preservation of up to four dead bodies.

Museum with Charts & Models

The museum is combined with a demonstration room and contains a wide range of anatomical learning resources including charts, models, articulated skeletons and disarticulated bones.

Dissection Facilities

The department provides cadavers for practical anatomical education along with appropriate sets of dissection instruments to facilitate hands-on learning and anatomical dissection procedures.

Department Library

A dedicated department library provides an adequate collection of Modern Anatomy and Ayurvedic books, supporting students and faculty members with reference materials for academic learning and research.

Availability of Cadaver

A cadaver serves as an essential resource for the practical study of anatomy through dissection. Without cadaveric dissection, the understanding of human anatomy remains incomplete.

The availability of an adequate number of cadavers is therefore of great importance. The department currently maintains six cadavers for BAMS students to undertake dissection and acquire practical anatomical knowledge.

All relevant identity documents pertaining to each cadaver, including the death certificate, a copy of the Aadhaar card, and other supporting records, are systematically maintained in the department.
