Panchakarma
The Panchakarma Department at Nangelil Ayurveda Medical College is a specialised centre for classical bio-purification and rejuvenation therapies rooted in the foundational texts of Ayurveda. It focuses on the systematic application of the five principal procedures—Vamana (therapeutic emesis), Virechana (purgation), Basti (medicated enema), Nasya (nasal administration), and Raktamokshana (bloodletting)—supported by preparatory measures such as Snehana (oleation) and Swedana (sudation), as well as post-therapy regimens (Paschat Karma).
The department delivers structured theoretical instruction and extensive clinical training to undergraduate students. Under the supervision of qualified faculty, students gain practical experience in patient assessment, procedure selection according to Prakriti and Dosha imbalance, precise administration of therapies, and monitoring of outcomes. Clinical services are provided through dedicated Outpatient and Inpatient facilities equipped with specialised therapy rooms, steam chambers, and classical formulation support.
Therapies are indicated in a wide range of conditions, including chronic musculoskeletal disorders, neurological ailments, skin diseases, metabolic imbalances, respiratory disorders, and lifestyle-related illnesses. Emphasis is placed on individualised protocols that restore physiological balance, enhance immunity, and promote long-term wellness.
The department also encourages clinical observation, documentation, and a research-oriented approach towards validating traditional practices. By combining authentic Ayurvedic principles with contemporary standards of hygiene, safety, and ethical care, the Panchakarma Department prepares competent practitioners while offering patients time-tested pathways to purification and rejuvenation.
